High-Precision Salinity Measurement
The Tropic Marin High-Precision Hydrometer Set provides a simple and highly precise way to monitor the specific gravity of marine aquarium water.
The set combines Tropic Marin's mouth-blown glass hydrometer with a purpose-designed 500ml measuring cylinder, allowing the hydrometer to float freely away from aquarium pumps, surface movement and other disturbances.
Fine 0.0001 Resolution
The High-Precision Hydrometer features:
• Measuring range: 1.021–1.031 specific gravity
• Resolution: 0.0001
• Maximum deviation: 0.001 at 25°C
• Recommended aquarium range: 1.025–1.027 at 25°C
Natural seawater at approximately 35‰ (PSU) has a specific gravity of around 1.026 at 25°C.
Purpose-Designed 500ml Cylinder
The included measuring cylinder is made from transparent polypropylene and features:
• 500ml capacity
• 36cm height

For testing, Tropic Marin recommends filling the cylinder with a maximum of approximately 400ml of aquarium water.
How to Use
For accurate measurement, the water should be at 25°C.

Fill the cylinder with up to 400ml of aquarium water.

Ensure the hydrometer is clean and dry.

Gently lower it into the cylinder and allow it to float freely.

Read the scale at the water surface – not at the raised edge of the meniscus.

After use, rinse the cylinder with fresh or RO water to remove salt residue.
Specific gravity changes with temperature, so consistent measurement temperature is important when comparing results.
