Vitalis Mixed Reef Food is a complete, balanced and highly digestible food developed for SPS corals, soft corals and other filter-feeding reef inhabitants.

Rather than using conventional flakes or larger pellets, Vitalis micronises the food into fine particles designed to emulate the suspended particulate matter naturally found in seawater and captured by corals with their tentacles.

Its micronised presentation allows the food to remain suspended within the water column, where feeding polyps can capture the particles.

This makes it particularly useful in mixed reef aquariums containing numerous small-polyped and filter-feeding inhabitants.

Every Particle Provides Complete Nutrition

Vitalis produces its micronised coral food so that each individual flake particle provides complete nutrition.

Rather than relying on a mixture in which different particles provide different nutritional components, the micronised flakes themselves form complete food particles.

This allows corals throughout the aquarium to receive balanced nutrition as the food circulates through the reef.

Encourage Natural Feeding Behaviour

The fine suspended particles are designed around the way many corals naturally obtain particulate food from seawater.

Vitalis also notes that research suggests feeding can support photosynthetic activity by increasing zooxanthellae numbers within coral tissue. These symbiotic algae convert light energy into chemical energy that can contribute towards coral growth.

How to Feed

For best results, mix a suitable quantity of Vitalis Mixed Reef Food with a small amount of aquarium water.

If possible, temporarily switch off the return or filtration pump while leaving the circulation pumps running. This keeps the micronised food suspended within the display aquarium where it remains available to the corals.

Do not leave the main filtration or return pump switched off for more than approximately 15 minutes.

The food can then be:

Target fed – Use a large pipette or coral feeder to gently deliver the suspended food towards individual corals.

Broadcast fed – Introduce the mixture upstream of the corals and allow aquarium circulation to distribute the particles throughout the reef.

Vitalis suggests introducing a small amount of Mixed Reef Food approximately five minutes before the main feed. This can encourage the corals to extend their feeding polyps so they're ready when the remainder of the food is introduced.
