Giant Peppermint Shrimp is a reef safe cleaning shrimp which consumes parasites and dead or diseased tissue from other animals.
According to a study the ability of Giant Peppermint Shrimp to control the pest glass anemone Aiptasia showed that Giant Peppermint Shrimp ingested the highest percentages of Aiptasia. The absence of symbiotic zooxanthellae in Aiptasia did not influence the shrimps’ feeding rate, with shrimp offered aposymbiotic anemones displaying the same feeding percentages as those offered sea anemones with symbiotic zooxanthellae. Concluding that cultured Giant Peppermint shrimp are as efficient as wild ones in Aiptasia control and should be preferred to other wild organisms.
