Shameface Crab is a snail predator. They are easily identified by their large, flattened claws that are held in front. which make them appear to be hiding behinf thier claws in shame - giving them their common name.
They prey on snail, their claws are very well designed for the destruction of snail shells. When one claw holds the shell and the other is used to open it like an old-fashioned Can opener. They must be provided with a deep sunbed, as most species live on or burrow into the sand. They also use their claws to bury themselves and may disappear into a deep sand bed with surprising rapidity.
