Biological Nitrate & Phosphate Reduction
Tropic Marin NP-Bacto-Pellets are biodegradable filter pellets designed to help reduce excess nitrate and phosphate in marine and reef aquariums.
Made from a blend of natural biopolymers, these pellets provide a carbon source and growing surface for beneficial microorganisms. As bacteria multiply, they consume nitrate and phosphate, incorporating these nutrients into bacterial biomass.
The resulting biomass can be removed by protein skimming or provide a food source for corals and other filter-feeding organisms.

How to Use

Pour boiling water over the pellets and soak for two hours before use, following Tropic Marin's instructions.

Place the prepared pellets in a suitable fluidised bed reactor with enough flow to keep them moving.

Start with 50ml per 100 litres of total aquarium water volume.

After four weeks, increase the quantity if required, based on measured nutrient levels.

Do not exceed 200ml per 100 litres.

Replenish consumed pellets approximately once a month.
A properly functioning protein skimmer is strongly recommended to help remove bacterial biomass and maintain gas exchange.
Important Nutrient Management Advice
Nitrate and phosphate reduction is gradual. Tropic Marin advises that measurable changes may become apparent after approximately 2–4 weeks.
Test NO₃ and PO₄ regularly and avoid reducing either nutrient to undetectable levels. Adjust the media quantity according to your aquarium's requirements.
