The Catalaphyllia Coral, also known as Elegant Coral, Wonder Coral, or Ridge Coral, is a large polyp stony (LPS) coral. It stands out as one of the most unique and captivating stony corals. During the day, its polyps extend, displaying a wide variety of colour tipped tentacles. Under actinic lighting, the coral exhibits vibrant fluorescent hues, including lime green, blue, orange, or purple-tipped tentacles that can range from branched to round or bulbous in shape. The most commonly available variety for aquarists features gold polyps with pink or purple tips.

The Catalaphyllia Coral is moderately challenging to care for and is suitable for both beginner and expert hobbyists. It requires plenty of space in the aquarium, as it can expand to twice its usual size during the day, potentially stinging any nearby corals. It is best placed in soft substrate, as this reduces irritation to the coral's fleshy underside compared to rockwork. Clownfish may adopt this coral as a host if no anemone is available. Handle with care, as the coral is fragile and can sting if disturbed.

The ideal conditions for the Catalaphyllia Coral in a reef aquarium include moderate lighting and moderate water movement. To maintain good health, it is important to add calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water.

This coral will benefit from regular feedings of brine shrimp, mysis shrimp or chopped meaty foods.
