The Duncan Coral is a striking coral known for its vivid colours and distinctive, whisker-like tentacles that retract when touched but otherwise stay visible around the clock. These corals develop colonies through elongated, tubular corallites adorned with brilliantly hued oral discs.

Originating from the deeper waters of Western and Northern Australia, as well as the South China Sea, Duncanopsammia thrives when anchored to sturdy structures in soft, sandy environments. In these settings, they propagate easily, often forming a seamless mat of tentacles that obscure the shape of the colony beneath.

This coral flourishes under low to moderate lighting. For optimal growth, ensure the aquarium has stable pH, high alkalinity, and calcium levels, paired with pristine water quality where phosphate and nitrate levels are kept as close to zero as possible. Moderate to gentle water movement and appropriate lighting further enhance the coral's well-being.

With its peaceful demeanour, the Duncan Coral coexists harmoniously with other non-aggressive corals and invertebrates, provided it has sufficient space to grow. It primarily meets its nutritional needs through photosynthetic, symbiotic zooxanthellae algae residing within its tissue. However, supplementing with regular target feedings of enriched meaty marine foods, such as mysis and brine shrimp, can promote better health and growth.
